Lura Griffiths

Lura has been singing jazz and pop in the Portland area for the past 7 years. Past venues include Wilfs Restaurant, Jimmy Macs, Ivories, Picnic House, Hotel Vintage, and a number of other local hotels and restaurants, outdoor markets, and numerous private events. In addition, she has had the pleasure to perform as a guest vocalist in the Washington, DC, New York City, and Paris, France.

Lura loves finding timeless and often haunting lyrics that allow for an intimate connection with her listeners that evokes memories and transports listeners to another time. But truth be told, as she says, "I also LOVE the beat! There is nothing I like more than to see an audience tapping, moving and singing right along with me and the other musicians on stage - watching faces light up as the joy of the music takes over. It's the whole reason I do this!"

Lura tries to find an interesting mix of well known songs, as well as lesser known numbers from the distant past and from just the past few years. Inspired by the greats such as: Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Nancy Wilson, and Nina Simone, Lura takes much of her style from more recent jazz and crossover artists such as Emile Clair Barlow, Jazzmeia Horn, Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy., plus classic R&B artists like Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, and Laurynn Hill. Whether singing Cole Porter or Natalie Cole, her lyrical quality and rich tone bring a sweet but sophisticated feel to every song.
